Liverpool again wasted a chance to take a commanding lead at the top of the Premier League after being held to a goalless draw by West Ham at Anfield.
After Chelsea’s defeat at home to Arsenal 24 hours earlier, last night was the perfect opportunity for Liverpool to go three points clear at the top of the table.
Yes, the Reds are back on top of the table, but by only one point of Chelsea, and it's now two 0-0 draws in a row for Rafa Benitez's side in the league.
Liverpool were dominated, but the Hammers repelled the waves of attacks as goalkeeper Robert Green produced a string of impressive stops.
Green made a fine point-blank save to deny Dirk Kuyt's header following Xabi Alonso's corner, two minutes from the break.
Then he made a great full stretch save to turn Yossi Benayoun's blistering drive over the top.
Not even Steven Gerrard, the man who almost single-handedly denied West Ham to FA Cup glory in 2006, could find a way through this time.
Ironically, it was former Liverpool striker Craig Bellamy who went closest to scoring when his drive from 25 yards out hit Pepe Reina's right post and bounced across goal to safety.
