Football superstar David Beckham has ended his 10-year association with soft drinks giant Pepsi.

The former England captain stated that the £2million-a-year deal will be discontinued at the end of the player's current contract.

No longer a brand ambassador for the fizzy-pop merchants, Beckham is set to focus on other work with major brands such as adidas, Vodafone and Armani.

The 33-year-old has thrilled his fans by dressing up as a gladiator, cowboy and surfer for the long-running Pepsi's advertising campaign.

Beckham, who will play for AC Milan after being loaned out by LA Galaxy, told the press: "I have nothing but good memories of my association with Pepsi.

"I’ve played a gladiator, a cowboy, a surfer, and worked alongside Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez as well as some of the biggest names in world football.

"I hope everyone who has seen the work enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed making it."

Pepsi also hailed its work with the former Manchester United and Real Madrid ace, claiming it as 'one of the most enduring partnerships in global brand history.'

The soft drinks manufacturer said: "David’s football legacy will live on, and everyone at Pepsi will continue to be passionate about his success.

"We wish David well with the many projects he is pursuing and look forward to the possibility of partnering together with him again someday."

However, the breakup news will please the Consumer Association, which earlier this year complained to Beckham that he was promoting unhealthy products to kids.
