Barcelona rallied to a 2-1 win at Villarreal as they took an extraordinary 10-point lead into the 18th round of La Liga, which resumes in January.
Barcelona had slightly the better of the first half and came close when Thierry Henry was clean through after only three minutes, but the Frenchman was denied by Villarreal keeper Diego López.
Following a goalless first half, Cani gave the home side the lead just after the break as chipped cooly over Víctor Valdés for his first goal since May 2007.
But Barça were level on 54 minutes as Malian midfielder Seydou Keita jumped ahead of advancing López to head in Daniel Alves' cross from the right.
And 12 minutes later, Barcelona went ahead when Henry latched onto a finely judged pass by Xavi and volleyed home to give the Catalans the lead.
Gerard Piqué was sent off late on for a second bookable offence. The defender was adjudged to have elbowed substitute Guille Franco, but contact appeared minimal and the former Manchester United player was unlucky to see red.
Franco and Nihat Kahveci wasted clear opportunities in the closing stages as the league leaders held on for a precious victory which leaves them in a fantastic position just short of the halfway stage.
Barcelona's total of 41 points from 16 games is the highest at this stage in La Liga history.
