Liverpool striker Fernando Torres is the most popular Premier League player among 32,000 people surveyed for the Barclays 2008 Global Fan Report.
The league’s main sponsor questioned 32,000 fans from 185 countries and found El Niño, who impressed in his first Premier League season last year before winning Euro 2008 in the summer, was the respondents’ favourite player.
Torres polled 38 percent of the votes ahead of team-mate Steven Gerrard and Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo.
Gerrard arguably came out best of all from the report, which also identified him as fans' second favourite player in the history of the league, behind Thierry Henry.
Sir Alex Ferguson was the other figure to achieve this dual recognition, as he was placed top of both the current and all-time favourite manager lists.
Meanwhile, the survey also revealed that 54 percent of respondents would like to see Barcelona's Lionel Messi in the Premier League.
David Beckham's strike from the halfway line against Wimbledon in 1996 was voted as the favourite moment in Premier League history, and Russia boss Guus Hiddink was the most popular tactician.
The survey also voted that the Spanish La Liga is the next most attractive league with 45 percent of votes, followed by Italy's Serie A with 18 percent.
