Arsène Wenger's hopes of challenging for the Premier League title look to be over after they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa at the Emirates.
Arsenal slipped nine points behind leaders Chelsea and Liverpool with their fourth loss of the season.
The visitors were full of running and could have taken the lead after 20 minutes when they earned a penalty after Ashley Young had been brought down by Theo Walcott.
Boyhoood Arsenal fan Young took the spot-kick himself but he watched in horror as Manuel Almunia parried the weak penalty and William Gallas dived in to stop Luke Young in his tracks as he chased the rebound.
But Young made amends when his dangerous cross in the 70th minute was headed into his own net by Gaël Clichy under pressure from Gabriel Agbonlahor.
And Agbonlahor completed the scoring 10 minutes later as he raced onto a long ball, brushed aside Gallas and fired beyond Almunia to hand Martin O'Neill's side their first win over the Gunners in 15 years.
The win moved Villa level on points with Arsenal, with the Gunners ahead in fourth place on goal difference.
Dirk Kuyt and Steven Gerrard were boosted Liverpool's title dream as they both scored in a 2-0 away victory over Bolton at the Reebok Stadium.
Kuyt had already hammered a shot against the bar before he headed a Fábio Aurélio cross past Jussi Jääskeläinen in the 28th minute for his fifth goal in seven Premier League matches.
Gary Cahill had an equaliser denied on the stroke of halftime when referee Rob Styles ruled that Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina had been fouled by Kevin Nolan on the process.
Fernando Torres then came off the bench after the interval and his cross was nodded home by skipper Gerrard to maintain the club's bid for a first league title since 1990.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 100th goal in a Manchester United shirt as the reigning champions thrashed Stoke 5-0 in a rampant display after last weekend's loss at Arsenal.
Ronaldo took just four minutes into the match to become the 19th player in the history of the Red Devils to reach the century landmark as he unleashed a typically long-range free-kick past Thomas Sørensen.
Ronaldo then fed Michael Carrick for United's second before the break, and Dimitar Berbatov made it 3-0 with a classy finish on 49 minutes.
Danny Welbeck then came on for his first appearance in the Premier League and capped a perfect debut by hitting a stunning long-range effort six minutes from time.
And Ronaldo curled in his 101st United goal with another free kick in the dying minutes.
Chelsea bounced back from their Carling Cup defeat to Burnley to remain in pole position in the Premier League table with a comfortable 3-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns.
Fullback José Bosingwa opened the scoring after 34 minutes as the Portugal international unleashed a curling left-foot strike from the edge of the box and into the top corner.
Within four minutes Nicolas Anelka doubled the lead when he raced on to Florent Malouda's headed pass and finished with a deft chip over the exposed Carson.
It was game over on the stroke of half-time when Anelka slotted home his second of the match, making it seven in three matches.
The second half was a formality for the visitors as the Blues extended their own Premier League record of 10 straight away victories.
Chelsea and Liverpool are tied atop the standings on 32 points, with the Blues ahead on goal difference.
