Villarreal are up to second in La Liga with a 2-1 win over Almería at El Madrigal.
Giuseppe Rossi got them off to the perfect start inside 60 seconds with a 25-yard thunderbolt before his attacking partner Joseba Llorente doubled the advantage in the 15th minute.
Almería improved in the second half and Pablo Piatti scored in the 61st minute to reduce the deficit, but the visitors could not force an equaliser.
The win maintained Villarreal's record as the only unbeaten team in La Liga this season, having won seven and drawn three of its 10 matches.
Almeria was the last team to beat Villarreal in the league - on April 13 toward the end of last season. Since then, Manuel Pellegrini's side has gone 16 matches unbeaten.
The Yellow Submarine now has 24 points, one less than leaders Barcelona.
In the late kick-off, Valencia also moved up to third with a comfortable 3-0 away win to 10-man Getafe.
Former Everton midfielder Manuel Fernandes opened the scoring after 29 minutes, smashing home from the edge of the box.
The hosts were reduced to ten men when Roberto Soldado was sent off for headbutting Carlos Marchena.
Spanish winger Joaquín added a second in the 69th minute with a stunning volley and Vicente made it 3-0 with nine minutes to go.
