Cruz could join Barça

Inter Milan striker Julio Cruz may be looking to join Spanish outfit Barcelona when the next transfer window opens in January.

His contract at San Siro is due to expire next summer and Inter has shown no intention of extending it, which means that other clubs will be allowed to approach him in the New Year.

The Argentine striker handed his side a last-gasp victory over Udinese last Sunday, and he also scored a late equaliser in a 3-3 draw with Cypriot minnows Anorthosis Famagusta in the Champions League last week.

However, he was briefly frozen out by Inter boss José Mourinho after the match against Genoa earlier last month, with the Portuguese coach declaring that Cruz was playing only for himself.

And that quarrel seems to have left a lasting rift between the two men.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Barcelona are keeping an eye on Cruz's situation, advised by his compatriot Lionel Messi, and could start talks with his agent in January.

The 34-year-old, who would like to play two more seasons and make Argentina's squad for the 2010 World Cup, has scored 75 goals in all competitions with the Nerazzurri, including 19 last season - second only to Zlatan Ibrahimović's 22.
