Liverpool brought an end to Chelsea's 86-match unbeaten record at home in the Premier League with a 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea hadn't been beaten at home since goals from Patrick Vieira and Edu gave Arsenal a 2-1 victory on February 2004.
Xabi Alonso scored the only goal of the match on 10 minutes when his shot took a deflection off José Bosingwa and wrong-footed Petr Čech.
Čech then kept the Blues in the match with a superb save from Steven Gerrard's 25-yard stunner before Alonso saw his free-kick struck the post.
Liverpool leads Chelsea and Hull by three points in the table as manager Rafa Benitez seeks to end Reds' 19-year quest for the title.
Manchester City celebrated their 100th Premier League match at Eastlands in style as Brazilian sensation Robinho struck a hat-trick in a 3-0 win over Stoke.
Record signing Robinho put City ahead on 14 minutes with a low drive following a clever pass by Ched Evans.
Daniel Sturridge, who had come on as a substitute before the break for the injured Evans, played a key role in City's second goal two minutes after the restart as he went on a mazy run before slipping a pass that Robinho slotted inside the post.
Robinho completed his hat-trick on 72 minutes after a quick City break and made it six goals in six matches for City.
Tottenham won its first match of the season in the Premier League - within hours of Harry Redknapp replacing Juande Ramos as manager - after a 2-0 success over Bolton at White Hart Lane.
It took Spurs 17 minutes to score when Roman Pavlyuchenko met David Bentley's cross with a glancing header to score his first Premier League goal.
Bolton's prospects of getting back into the match were dealt a blow when Gavin McCann was dismissed for a second bookable offense in the 56th minute.
Darren Bent, who replaced Pavlyuchenko, wrapped up the victory as he slammed home from the spot on 76 minutes after being brought down by keeper Jussi Jääskeläinen.
At Upton Park, Arsenal struck twice in the final 15 minutes to grab a 2-0 win over West Ham in a match that will be a contender for Match of the Season.
Emmanuel Adebayor was introduced on 67 minutes, and eight minutes later had his shot appeared to be going well wide until Julien Faubert steered the ball past Robert Green.
The Togo striker added the second in the first minute of stoppage time before Hammers' striker Carlton Cole was dismissed following a late tackle on Alexandre Song.
The win moved Arsène Wenger’s men to within a point of Chelsea and four behind leaders Liverpool.
