Manchester United were held to a 1-1 at Everton as as Marouane Fellaini's second half leveler ended United's six-match winning run.

Darren Fletcher fired United ahead in the 22nd minute as he controlled a pass from Ryan Giggs, evaded Joleon Lescott and shot through goalkeeper Tim Howard's legs.

Everton back on level terms on 63 minutes when Fellaini headed home a Phil Neville cross past Edwin van der Sar.

Former Everton player Wayne Rooney, who celebrated his 23rd birthday on Friday, was subbed with 19 minutes remaining after he was riled by the home fans.

At the Stadium of Light, Kieran Richardson smashed home a stunning free-kick to end Sunderland's 28-year wait for a home win over Newcastle in the Tyne-Wear derby.

Sunderland went ahead after 20 minutes when Djibril Cissé outstretched his leg to steer in Steed Malbranque's screwed shot past Shay Given.

But the lead only lasted 10 minutes as Shola Ameobi headed in Geremi's free kick to score his second goal of the week.

Richardson handed Sunderland the winner in the 75th minute with a superb free-kick from the edge of the box.

The final whistle was marred by ugly scenes after Sunderland's fans came onto the pitch to celebrate the victory.

Hull City's phenomenal start to the season continued with a 3-0 victory at West Brom.

Hull's goalkeeper Boaz Myhill was outstanding throughout the first half as his superb saves denied Borja Valero, Ishmael Miller and James Morrison, while Jonas Olsson headed against the crossbar.

West Brom paid for not taking its chances when Kamil Zayatte volleyed home a Dean Marney corner from close range on 47 minutes.

Geovanni doubled the lead in the 62nd minute with a diving header before Marlon King added a third four minutes later.

An injury time header from substitute Benni McCarthy earned Blackburn a point as they claimed a 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough at Ewood Park.

Both sides struck the woodwork in the first half and the visitors saw Tuncay Şanlı's overhead goal was wrongly flagged for offside.

Boro took the lead in the 74th minute as Afonso Alves fired home the opener from the edge of the box.

But in the fourth minute of injury time, an unmarked McCarthy rose highest at the near post to head home the equaliser.
