AC Milan have confirmed David Beckham will officially join the club on a three-month loan deal from LA Galaxy.

The 33-year-old will join the Serie A side on January 7 and stay until the MLS season’s resumption in mid-March.

Beckham said: "I’ll be honoured to be given the chance to train and play with the likes of Ronaldinho and Kaká.

"But it also gives me the chance to keep up my fitness and carry that on for when I go back to the Galaxy for the new MLS season.

"One of the reasons I want to train and play in Milan for a few months is the fact the MLS season doesn’t run as long as the European.

"And having played most of my career in Europe, my body has been trained and geared not to have that amount of time off."

The former Manchester United star is keen to play in Europe in the MLS off-season to remain fit and available for selection for England.

"What motivates any top-level footballer is the fact that playing for your national team is the greatest honor and having the potential to play in another World Cup is what every player dreams about," Galaxy coach Bruce Arena told Sky Sports News. "This is what really motivates him."

Beckham's MLS campaign ended early as he was unable to lead Galaxy to the play-offs.

Though not officially a Milan player until January 7, he will still join up with his new team-mates for a midwinter training camp in Dubai, which includes a friendly.

He will become the first English player to play for the Rossoneri since 1987, when Ray Wilkins and Mark Hateley left the club.
