Former Inter Milan boss Roberto Mancini has been awarded the Trofeo Maestrelli for the best Coach of 2008.

The award is presented annually to the tactician who stood out in Serie A and Mancini is the 29th winner.

Mancini had won three Scudetti with the Nerazzurri, but was fired by President Massimo Moratti because of his lack of success in the Champions League and replaced by José Mourinho.

The award has even more meaning for Mancio, as it is named after another former Lazio coach in Maestrelli.

"As an ex-player and coach of Lazio, it can only bring me extreme satisfaction," Mancini said at the presentation in Viareggio.

Similar situation involved another Inter coach in the past when Luigi Simoni was fired on the same day he won a Serie A coach of the year award in 1998.
