Ronaldo looks for Flamengo swoop

We're not talking about Cristiano Ronaldo, who has been covered all the headlines with his transfer saga, but we're talking about three times FIFA World Player of the Year winner Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima.

The striker turns 32 in September and his career has been wrecked by a series of injuries.

Now it seems that his Serie A career appears to be over after Flamengo announced an agreement with his agent.

Flamengo president Marcio Braga told Globoesporte newspaper: "We have a deal with the player's agent.

"As soon as he has recovered from the injury, we will sit around a table and complete the paperwork.

"Flamengo's medical staff are personally following his physical progress. Ronaldo will be this club's top priority."

The Phenomenon, who steered his country to their fifth World Cup title in 2002, has been out of action since suffering a knee tendon injury while playing in AC Milan's 1-1 Serie A draw with Livorno on February.

If he does sign for Flamengo, it will be his first non-European club since Cruzeiro in 1993-94.

The 31-year-old forward has worn the jerseys of top European sides – PSV Eindhoven, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Milan.
